The Big Iron for the Novice is a softer metal for making flutes as a hobby. It can make all of our flutes, including the small minor holes.
Just take your time and push the iron for the hole you want. Follow the hole sizes on our Master Flutes.

Recently, i downloaded Erik the flutemakers DVD "Flutemaking 101". So, after i organized a beautiful peace of black bamboo, i began to work on a sideblown flute. This is the result.
It´s a Meditation style flute with a modified japanese Akebono tuning in the Key of C#. It has four finger holes and one thumb hole. Making this flute was truly a wonderful journey.

Thank you for sending me my delivery in flute-light-speed! I got the flute making dvd and the iron tools last week. The bamboo blank for the E-Major is absolut beautifull to. My flute journey, so to say, starts, as I found your page years ago. I never had thought to find so beautifull flutes. And now I have started to make the first few humbled flutes in
my life.
O wow, what can I say. I can't stop it anymore. My first and last thought every day is, thinking on flute making. Everywhere I see bamboo. If it is a bamboo table for example I think, you would sound better as a flute!
Forgive me, I am realy mad with that. Your dvd is such a valuable and wonderfull tool. I feel gratitude to have the chance to learn from you, every time I watch it. The way you explain and show the process, is so clear and nice, that it is a great pleasure. So this dvd has taken me by my hand, to lead me through the dream of flute making. Erik, I enjoyed your Dvd, “How to make flutes”.
It is a wealth of information. I live near Waxahachie, Texas and there is plenty of Bamboo.
Thus, far I have made a concert G, and it is playing beautifully.
I will be making more, and will definitely be getting back with you to order some other flutes to use as patterns.
Using yours as patterns beats all the brain work that goes into making one from scratch.
Without your video, I could not have had the level of success I had.
I will be making these for fun and worship, and will be giving these to children in our church.
